National Commission for Personal Data Protection Proposed
The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication Pakistan has proposed the creation of a National Commission for Personal Data Protection in its draft bill called the ‘Personal Data Protection Bill 2023’. The bill prohibits sharing of a user’s information or data with any company, individual, or government organization without his permission.
The proposed regulator National Commission for Personal Data Protection (NCPDP) will act as a civil court to protect the private documents or data of the users and redress the grievances of the complainants.
The Ministry of Information Technology has also drafted the E-Safety Bill, 2023 to protect user data and prevent illegal use of information systems.
Under this law, a comprehensive framework will be established to ensure the protection and unauthorized use of user data on all types of online services, online shopping, data provided to various companies, and social networking websites in Pakistan.
The bill seeks to prevent heinous crimes like online harassment, cyberbullying, and blackmail
Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) Rules 2023 Approved by the Federal Cabinet of Pakistan
The Federal Minister for IT and Telecom Syed Amin ul Haque has reported that the Federal Cabinet of Pakistan has given its approval to the Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) Rule 2023.
In a statement, the minister said that the decision comes after a thorough consultation process that involved various stakeholders. The Ministry of IT and Telecommunication (MoITT) was instrumental in formulating the CERT Rules.
The Ministry of IT and Telecommunication (MoITT) is the designated organization of the Federal Government of Pakistan to deal with Cyber Security and has formulated the CERT Rules under section 51, read with section 49 of the Prevention of Electronic Crime Act (PECA), 2016, and in compliance with the National Cyber Security Policy (NCSP), 2021.
